Thinking It..

Are you tired of dragging yourself out of bed every morning, dreading the soul-sucking 9-to-5 grind that slowly kills your spirit day by day? Do you find yourself constantly daydreaming about a life where you actually enjoy what you do, where work doesn’t feel like a prison sentence? Well, it’s time to stop dreaming and start doing. We talked about emotional intelligence and recognizing your emotions. Now that you have a handle on that – time to use that knowledge to figure out what you want to do with your time.

The first step to escaping the wage slave cage and building a life of purpose is to figure out what the hell you actually want to do. And I’m not talking about some generic, half-assed answer like “I want to help people” or “I want to make a difference.” I’m talking about the raw, unfiltered truth that lies deep within you. The things that set your soul on fire, that make you feel alive and energized.

But here’s the thing – uncovering your true passions isn’t always a walk in the park. We’ve been conditioned by society to think that work is supposed to be a struggle, that we should just shut up and do what we’re told. We’ve been fed this bullshit idea that following our dreams is a luxury reserved for the privileged few, and that the rest of us should just be grateful for whatever scraps we can get. School, pick a pre-determined “career” and then work 80-100 hours a week for peanuts and praise.

Really? You deserve better than a life of mediocrity and compromise. You deserve to wake up every day excited about what you do, to feel a sense of purpose and fulfillment in your work. But to get there, you need to be willing to dig deep and get honest with yourself.

Start by asking yourself some tough questions. What are the activities that you lose yourself in, that make time feel like it’s standing still? What are the topics that you could talk about for hours, that light you up and make you feel passionate? What are the skills that come naturally to you, that feel more like play than work?

Don’t hold back or censor yourself. This is the time to let your freak flag fly. Maybe you’ve always had a secret dream of being a professional puppet master, or a competitive lip syncer. Maybe you have a weird obsession with collecting vintage toasters, or a talent for making elaborate origami sculptures. Whatever it is, write that shit down. Don’t worry about the money yet, not even a thought about it. Just what it is that would drive you to kick ass every day no matter what obstacles are in your way.

And don’t worry about whether it’s “practical” or “realistic.” This isn’t about finding a job that will impress your parents or fit into some narrow societal mold. This is about discovering what makes you come alive, what fills you with a sense of purpose and excitement.

Once you have a list of potential passions, it’s time to start vetting them. This is where the rubber meets the road, where you have to be brutally honest with yourself. Ask yourself: Is this something I could see myself doing every day for the foreseeable future? Is it aligned with my values and beliefs? Am I willing to put in the time and effort to become a master at it? Not an expert, not a professional – a fucking master.

If the answer is a resounding “absolutely yes,” then congratulations – you’ve just identified a potential path that could bring you immense joy and fulfillment. But if the answer is a lukewarm “meh,” then it’s time to cross that shit off the list and keep exploring. Sometimes this can take weeks or months. Don’t rush this. It’s very important to take your time and figure it out right. Be reasonable though. You don’t have 3 months to figure this out. Tick tock, every day that you wait is one more day that you are stuck doing what someone else chooses for you to do that day.

Now, I know what you might be thinking – “But how the fuck am I supposed to make money doing something so out there?” And it’s a valid question. We’ve been taught to believe that the only way to be successful is to follow a narrow, conventional path. But the truth is, if you’re truly passionate about something, there’s always a way to monetize it.

Maybe you start a blog or a podcast about your niche interest, and build a loyal following of like-minded individuals. Maybe you create a product or service that solves a problem for people around you. Maybe what your passion and choice is that you become a teacher or a consultant, sharing your expertise with others and helping them achieve their own goals.

The possibilities are endless, but the key is to focus on the passion first and the profits second. Because when you’re truly lit up by what you do, the money has a way of following.

But here’s the thing – this isn’t a one-and-done process. Discovering your passions is a lifelong journey, one that requires constant self-reflection and experimentation. You might try something out and realize it’s not quite the right fit, and that’s okay. The important thing is to keep exploring, keep pushing yourself out of your comfort zone, and keep listening to that inner voice that tells you what lights you up inside.

And when you do find those one or two things that make you feel alive, don’t be afraid to go all in. You are building a foundation here. Things can be changed later – and probably will as you evolve. Don’t let the doubters and the naysayers hold you back. Don’t let the fear of failure or the unknown stop you from pursuing your dreams. For now, keep these choices to yourself. We will talk about how to start getting this put together soon.

Because at the end of the day, this is your one wild and precious life. You don’t get a second chance at this shit. So why waste it doing something that doesn’t feed your soul, that doesn’t make you feel alive and fulfilled? Don’t think so? If your grandmother caught a cold the night she met your grandfather and had not been at that exact place at that exact time – you literally wouldn’t be here. YES, your life is that random and precious. Don’t waste your limited time here on this planet doing what everyone else wants or expects from you.

It’s time to stop settling for a life of quiet desperation and start creating a life of purpose and passion. It’s time to stop thinking about what you “should” do and start thinking about what you “must” do. It’s time to embrace your inner weirdo, your unique gifts and talents, and share them with the world.

And if you need help along the way, I’ve got your back. I’ll be here to guide you, to support you, and to kick your ass when you need it. Because I believe in you, and I believe in the power of pursuing your passions. There is a lot of people who think like you – you just haven’t found them yet. That is about to change if you engage this ecosystem. I’m starting the Rethink Theory Server which is just one step in the right direction for you.

So what are you waiting for? Start brainstorming, start exploring, and start believing in yourself. The world needs more people who are lit up from within, who are doing what they love and making a difference in their own unique way.

It’s time to stop thinking and start doing. It’s time to unleash your reality and create a life that fucking rocks. Let’s go.
